Sophie writes to Abuelita. She learned about the 4-H club, a free club where kids can learn about farming. She tried to attend her first meeting today, hoping to meet other kids her age. Sophie was nervous to be around so many new people, but she’s lonely. She told herself to be brave, thinking about how Abuelita was brave when she moved to LA. Sophie left quickly. She read chicken books in the corner of the library instead. She won’t return to the 4-H club.
Ms. O’Malley showed Sophie an article about Redwood Farm Supply, in which Ms. Griegson expresses interest in buying and restoring the farm. Sophie is confused; she doesn’t think that Agnes would sell Ms. Griegson the farm, even though she sold Ms. Griegson the hawk-chicken.
